STD’s and other diseases and infections can also be detected before they spread, to prevent infertility or further health complications. Furthermore, they offer peace of mind when you receive the all clear from your doctor, and you know that you’re fit and healthy.

Oestrogen is the female sex hormone that regulates a woman’s periods. The fall in oestrogen also causes both physical and emotional symptoms including hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, and vaginal dryness.

• Very first examination ( between the ages of 13 and 15)

• Mammograms (annually, beginning around the age of 19)

• PAP tests (annually, beginning around the age of 21)

• Pelvic examinations (annually, beginning around the age of 21)

For women aged 30 or above, who have had regular results from PAP tests, should undergo further PAP tests every 2 years, whilst still undergoing regular OB/GYN examinations every 12 months. How ever, for women at a higher risk of certain illnesses and diseases, such as women with a history of breast cancer in their families the frequency of the exams should be increased.

What are “PAP Smear” Tests?

A pap smear is a simple, quick and effective way to check for cervical cell changes before they develop into cancer. All women aged 25 years and above who have had sex and /or are sexually active are at risk of developing cervical cancer, and should go for regular pap smear tests.

If the first pap smear is normal, subsequent pap smears can be done once every three years.
